O Melhor Amigo do Homem

Man’s best friend – (Please find the English version at the end of the text)

No curso de Engenharia Civil, aprendi com o professor de Estruturas que, depois do cachorro, o melhor amigo do homem é o concreto armado.

Pensando bem, a filosofia do mestre faz todo sentido, pois construções populares executadas sem qualquer critério técnico ficam em pé, mesmo desafiando a Engenharia e as próprias leis da física.

Obras públicas feitas a “toque de caixa” também me surpreendem. Caem tão poucas…..

Apesar de tudo isso, estou convencido de que nem cachorro, nem concreto armado merecem este título tão nobre.

Nos tempos atuais, afirmo, sem medo de errar, que o melhor amigo do homem (talvez da Humanidade), é ……o GOOGLE.

Ele é nosso dicionário (em qualquer língua), tradutor de textos, atlas, encontra ruas e endereços, traz receitas de comida, ensina simpatia para asma e tudo mais.

Duvido quem tenha uma dorzinha aqui e ali, uma mancha na pele ou receba exames de laboratório e aguente não se consultar com o “Dr. Google”. Aposto que você logo se identificou, não é verdade?

Relaxe, pois todo mundo faz igualzinho….

Toda esta introdução foi para dizer que, em caso de preparação de uma viagem, sempre costumo montar o roteiro com a ajuda deste meu caro “amigo”.

Com um roteiro lógico, eu planejo meus dias de forma racional, sem me cansar de cruzar aleatoriamente a mesma cidade.

Vamos, então, dar início ao nosso plano de viagem. (Hoje eu estou bonzinho demais. Deveria vender esta dica….., mas, vamos lá. O Blog é novo….. e depende de adeptos gentis como você.)

Escolha a lista de pontos de interesse (POI) que pretende conhecer na(s) localidade(s) e anote.

• crie, no computador, uma pasta para organizar toda a sua viagem (exemplo C:/ Viagem2018Madri)
• pegue a lista com nomes de atrações ou pontos de interesse (eu avisei para você anotar…)
• abra o Google Earth (não falei que seria com ele?)
• no campo “Pesquisar” digite o nome de uma atração (exemplo: Plaza Mayor, Madri, Espanha)
• agora clique no botão “Pesquisar” e você estará virtualmente viajando para Madri (nem a passagem você gastou….)
• colocando o cursor do mouse sobre o mapa da Plaza Mayor, vai anotar as coordenadas, latitude e longitude correspondentes numa planilha Excell. Estes dados estarão no canto inferior direito da tela.
• uma vez lançadas as informações, salve esta planilha num diretório e pasta conhecidos (exemplo: Viagem2018Madri)

• agora entre no endereço https://www.earthpoint.us/ExcelToKml.aspx
• encontre no meio da tela ( Select an Excell file) a opção “Escolher Arquivo” e mande abrir  sua preciosa planilha (é claro, né?) (exemplo C:/Viagem 2018Madri)
• selecione, então, a opção “View on Google Earth” , nomeie este novo arquivo (exemplo POI Madri) e também salve no C:/Viagem2018Madri
• será baixado, no canto esquerdo da tela, o arquivo com seus pontos de interesse. (A extensão “default” será “.kml”)
• Pronto; clique nele e você verá todas as suas atrações posicionadas na tela do Google Earth.

Parece mágica!!!

Ótimo, agora já pode preparar o seu roteiro

• é legal enviar o arquivo gerado aos seus companheiros de viagem, por e-mail, de forma que também possam abrir e curtir o progresso do plano (se forem muito chatos é melhor não mandar. Guarde só para você. Se insistirem, diga que deu problema no seu computador)
• detalhe: posteriormente você poderá inserir, na mesma planilha Excell, outros pontos que forem surgindo (hotéis, etc). Faça o mesmo procedimento salve “em cima” do arquivo POI anterior e complete cidades, países, todos no mesmo arquivo da sua viagem
• Veja o exemplo na prática.
• Só funciona neste formato:

1. Note que na coluna C deve ser (literalmente) colocado “Name”
2. Observe que a longitude de Madri é negativa (mas não se preocupe, pois no Google Earth já aparece desta forma. Lembra como ele é útil?)
3. Em cada linha da coluna “Name”, coloque o nome da cidade antes da atração, no caso Madri, para que o GPS separe por cidade da viagem (fica ao seu critério)
4. É importante lançar na planilha as coordenadas dos Hotéis reservados, de forma a iniciar o programa diário a partir deles

Já imaginou que desastre seria, logo cedo, você tomando um taxi para o Palácio Real, outro para o Parque del Buen Retiro, outro para a Plaza Mayor e finalmente para o Museu do Prado, sendo tudo relativamente perto?

Entendeu a importância da recomendação?

Tente pegar a planilha do exemplo acima para fazer o teste. É tranquilo….

The Man’s best friend

During the course of Civil Engineering, in my Structures classes, I’ve learned that besides the dogs, the reinforced concrete is the best Man’s.

Consider this and you’ll agree it makes perfect sense: the great majority of popular constructions performed without any technical criteria end up standing, in spite of challenging engineers and the laws of physics.

Public constructions sometimes built “in a hurry” also surprise me, I mean it. Too few of them end up colapsing…

Despite all this, I’m convinced that neither dog nor reinforced concrete deserves the honorable title.

Nowadays, I state without fear of mistake, that man’s best friend (perhaps of humanity), is. .. the amazing GOOGLE.

Yes, GOOGLE is our dictionary (any language), translator of texts, atlas, finds streets and addresses, presents food recipes, teaches asthma healing tricks and whatever you need.

I doubt anyone feeling a small pain, having a skin blemish or receiving lab exams could skip not consulting “Dr. Google”. I bet you identified yourself, too, didn’t you?

Relax, for everybody does the same….

This long introduction was just to say that in case of planning a trip I always use my dear friend GOOGLE.

With a logical itinerary, I can plan the days in a rational way, avoiding cross the same city randomly.

Come on starting up our trip plan, then. (Today I’m quite nice. As a matter of fact I should sell you all these tips .., but the Blog is new and depends on kind supporters like you…..)

First of all, choose the list of points of interest (POI) you plan to meet and jot them down.

• create a special folder on your computer to organize the whole trip (example C:/2018Madrid)
• now take the list of points of interest (I warned you to write them…..)
• open Google Earth (remember I told you’d use it…)
• in the field “Search” type each attraction’s name (example: Plaza Mayor, Madrid, Spain)
• then click on the “search” button to virtually travel to Madrid (without the air tickets, right?)
• by placing the mouse cursor over Plaza Mayor map, you will write its coordinates, latitude and longitude in an Excell spreadsheet. This information will show up in the lower right corner of the screen.
• once all the attractions have filled the spreadsheet, save it in directory C:/2018Madrid naming the file such as 2018Madrid_coordinates

• now access the link https://www.earthpoint.us/ExcelToKml.aspx at the internet browser
• in the center of the screen you will find (Select an Excell file) then “Choose file “2018Madrid_coordinates”
• Select “View on Google Earth”, rename the file as you like then save it at C:/2018Madrid
• at the screen left corner will show up the file name with your points of interest (POI). (default extension “.KML”)
• now click on it to see all the attractions in Google Earth.

Magic!!!

Great, now you’ll be able to plan your itinerary.

• you can forward it to your traveling companions, so they can enjoy the trip plan (in case they are boring guys you’d better not sending them anything. Just keep it for you. In case they insist, tell them your computer is under repair….)
• later on you’ll be able to fill additional attractions in the same spreadsheet such as hotels, etc. Do the same procedure always saving “over it”, completing cities, countries, all in the same file.

1. In Column “C” write the word “Name”
2. Notice that Madrid longitudes are negatives (but, Google Earth already makes it right. Oh God, how useful it is.
3. In the column “Name” write Madrid (or the other cities’ names) before the attraction, so that GPS can separate city by city of the trip
4. Don’t forget to fill the Hotels coordinates, in order to start the daily program from them

Can you imagine what a disaster would be taking a taxi to the Royal Palace, another to Plaza Mayor and then Prado Museum, being all of them quite near?

All this really avoids wasting time.

Try take a test using the above spreadsheet as an example. It’s quite easy ….

The next information is for graduate students only…..

• You wish to download everything in your GPS? (list of Points of Interest (POIs)).Now save the file on Google Earth as .KMZ (instead of .KML) file extension then copy it in your GPS POIs folder.
