Afirmo, sem dúvida, que todo fã dos Beatles sonha em conhecer a cidade onde nasceram e viveram John, Paul, George e Ringo .
A emoção de se preparar e, principalmente, de chegar a Liverpool é simplesmente indescritível.

Diversas operadoras de turismo fazem passeios temáticos por Liverpool, porém a única que permite conhecer internamente as casas de John e de Paul, é o National Trust, pois tem direito exclusivo sobre as 2 propriedades.

Lennon viveu com tia Mimi em Mendips (251 Manlove Avenue), Woolton – Liverpool, de 1945 até 1963,
enquanto Paul McCartney morou em 20 Forthlin Road, Allerton – Liverpool, entre 1957 e 1963.
A visita é totalmente guiada e você irá delirar ao conhecer cada cômodo e saber detalhes sobre eles.
John, por exemplo, adorava desenhar na sala onde fica a lareira.

Também gostava de conversar com tio George na cozinha. Após seu falecimento, passou a ficar no quintal juntamente com os estudantes que alugavam quartos de tia Mimi.
Paul muitas vezes entrava pelo fundo da casa onde morava e escalava, pela parede de fora, até o andar de cima.
Tanto no quarto de John, como no de Paul estão réplicas dos primeiros violões que tiveram.
Durnte o passeio é possível descobrir onde ensaiavam e foram compostas as primeiras canções da dupla Lennon & McCartney.
O National Trust recorreu a pessoas que conheceram ambas as casas e famílias, de forma a recompô-las com móveis e enfeites da época, exatamente como haviam sido no passado.
Na casa de Paul, por exemplo, há um piano idêntico àquele que seu pai comprou na loja da família Epstein, cujo filho, Brian, mais tarde tornou-se empresário e grande responsável pelo sucesso mundial dos Beatles.

Ao final da visita do National Trust os fans são convidados a tocar o instrumento: tivemos sorte, pois entre nós havia um visitante que tocava piano.
Um detalhe muito importante: apenas fotos externas são permitidas, porém é possível adquirir livretos com informações e imagens internas.

Horários de visita: 10:00, 11:00 e 14:15 saindo do Jurys Inn Hotel, perto da roda-gigante, Albert Dock, Echo Arena e Convention Center.
Às 15:15 sai do Speke Hall.
Como melhor opção, indicamos a saída do Jurys Inn Hotel, onde pede-se chegar meia hora antes, a tempo de tomar um café e ainda conhecer, do lado de fora, o lindo Monumento à Paz erguido em homenagem a John Lennon.
Depois disso, você pega o micro-ônibus do National Trust e escuta música dos Beatles durante todo o trajeto do passeio.
– Casa de Ringo Starr
O endereço 10 Admiral Grove, Dingle – Liverpool fica numa rua em que não circulam veículos, portanto as excursões param à distância e apenas indicam o local, portanto o acesso ao imóvel não faz parte do roteiro.
Era um sábado, em Setembro de 2014, quando a excursão parou em frente ao pub Empress e aproveitei para tirar foto do prédio que foi capa do LP de Ringo, “Sentimental Journey”. Endereço: 93 High Park Street, Liverpool.
Com o endereço em mãos, retornei por conta própria pouco mais tarde à Admiral Grove, onde logo vi um senhor que acabava de sair de uma casa por ali.
Perguntei-lhe onde ficava a antiga casa de Ringo e ele prontamente apontou uma senhora que estava na porta, um pouco adiante.
Extremamente gentil, a então proprietária indicou a foto dele na janela, dizendo que o conheceu desde a infância, que havia sido uma criança muito doente, mas que superou todas as dificuldades.
Ao pedir licença para fotografar a fachada da casa, ela concordou e acrescentou: pode fotografar e você está convidado a entrar comigo para conhecê-la por dentro.
A alegria foi tanta que mal pude acreditar, pois jamais havia sonhado com esta possibilidade.
Ao entrar na pequena sala, uma enorme surpresa e muita emoção: era um ambiente totalmente temático, com várias fotos dos Beatles, algumas de Ringo naquele mesmo ambiente e também ao lado de fora da casa.

A Sra Margaret Grose contou que, na época, foi vizinha próxima de Ringo e que havia se mudado para aquele endereço em 1985.
Ocasionalmente, com extrema restrição, ela recebia fãs dos Beatles e aceitava doações voluntárias, que, acredite, eram destinadas a obras de caridade.
Aquele raro momento ficará para sempre em minha lembrança, pela surpresa e gentileza do convite.
Em 2015, após trinta anos no endereço 10 Admiral Grove, soube que a adorável Sra Grose havia falecido aos 91 anos de idade, portanto um ano depois da honra de tê-la conhecido.
– Casa de George Harrison
O primeiro endereço de George em Liverpool foi 12 Arnold Grove, Wavertree, que fica numa rua fechada, na qual apenas veículos de moradores têm acesso.
O ônibus de excursão parou e indicou a casa, identificada pelo vaso mais baixo pendurado na fachada, logo atrás do carro.
Um tanto frustrado, me contentei em fotografá-la de longe, porém, para surpresa de todos, logo saiu um morador e fez sinal ao guia, autorizando o acesso dos visitantes até a frente da casa.
Uma nova alegria, pois acabava de conseguir a sonhada foto da fachada de 12 Arnold Grove e por alguns segundos senti a vibração de estar ali onde viveu um dos 4 Beatles, ninguém menos do que o fabuloso George Harrison.
– Local do primeiro encontro de John Lennon e Paul McCartney
Meu grande desejo era ir ao exato local onde Ivan Vaughan havia apresentado seu vizinho John Lennon ao colega de classe Paul McCartney, em 1957.
A excursão escolhida não atendia este ponto e, inconformado, tentei descobrir por conta própria.
Sabia também que muito próximo dali ficava o túmulo de Eleanor Rigby, cujo nome havia inspirado Paul McCartney a compor a belíssima canção em 1966, contando a fictícia história da solitária mulher.
Fui direto à St Peter’s Church, na Church Road, em Woolton, bairro onde John Lennon havia morado e estudado, mas, sozinho, não pude identificar nenhum dos 2 lugares pretendidos.
Naquele final de tarde de sábado, e com tempo contado para deixar Liverpool, só me restava perguntar às pessoas que passavam por ali naquele momento.
Primeiramente, um senhor me informou desconhecer os locais; depois, um jovem casal que lamentou não saber.
Fiz, então, uma última tentativa com um senhor que vinha calmamente passeando com seu cão pela calçada.
Eu disse: Boa tarde. Por acaso o senhor sabe informar onde fica o túmulo de Eleanor Rigby e o lugar onde 2 dos Beatles se conheceram aqui por perto?
Ele me olhou fixamente, dizendo com extrema segurança e visível alegria:
Você é uma pessoa de sorte, sabia?
Diante de minha reação ele apontou para a camiseta que usava, mostrou o símbolo e disse: muito prazer, eu sou Stevie T e trabalho como guia na Mop Top Tours, fazendo passeios pelos locais dos Beatles, em Liverpool.
Com extremo prazer, Stevie me levou diretamente aos dois locais e contou, em riqueza de detalhes, a cena do primeiro encontro, quando Paul foi apresentado e logo tomou emprestado o violão de John, tocando perfeitamente músicas que faziam sucesso na época.
John gostou demais do que ouviu, mas não quis demonstrar entusiasmo em trazer Paul para os Quarry Men, por temer a perda da liderança em seu grupo de Skiffle. É claro que, pouco depois, acabou cedendo e nasceu a semente dos eternos Beatles.

Fiquei extremamente agradecido ao Stevie e nos despedimos com um grande abraço pelo inesperado encontro.

No doubt, that all Beatles’ fans would dream of visiting the town where John, Paul, George, and Ringo were born and lived.
The excitement of preparing and, mainly, to get to Liverpool is indescribable, indeed.
But how to plan your trip and choose the best sights for the Beatles’ fans?

brought along relevant information to be read and shared with people who love The (eternal) Beatles.

– National Trust (John’s and Paul’s childhood homes)
Several operators provide thematic tours in Liverpool, but National Trust is the only one allowing fans visiting the childhood homes of John and Paul internally, once they have the exclusive right over the 2 properties.

Lennon lived with Aunt Mimi in Mendips (251 Manlove Avenue), Woolton-Liverpool, from 1945 to 1963, whereas McCartney lived at 20 Forthlin Road, Allerton, Liverpool, between 1957 and 1963.
The tour is fully guided so you’ll enjoy meeting each room and learn precious details about them.
John, for instance, loved to draw by the fireplace in the family room. He liked talking to Uncle George in the kitchen, but after his death, John would rather stay in the backyard with students who rented Aunt Mimi’s rooms.
Paul often headed to his house backyard and climbed the wall to the upper floor.
Inside both John’s and Paul’s bedroom you’ll see replicas of their first guitars.
You’ll also discover where they rehearsed and composed the first Lennon & McCartney songs.
The National Trust appealed to people who had known both homes and families, so to reconstruct them with furniture and decoration items, exactly as they had been in the past.
In Paul’s home, for instance, there’s a piano identical to the one his father bought from the family Epstein’s store, whose son, Brian, later became Manager and largely responsible for the worldwide Beatles’ success.
At the end of the tour, visitors are welcome to play the instrument: we were lucky enough to have someone among us who could play the piano.
Relevant note: only external photos are allowed, however, you can purchase booklets with information plus internal images.

10:00 am, 11:00 am and 2:15 pm departing from Jurys Inn Hotel, near the Ferris wheel, Albert Dock, Echo Arena and Convention Center.
3:15 pm departing from the Speke Hall.
The Blog’s choice is departing from the Jurys Inn Hotel, where arriving half an hour before you get a cup of coffee and also meet the beautiful Peace Monument erected outside in tribute to John Lennon.
After that, you’ll take the National Trust van and listen to Beatles’ songs throughout the ride.
– Ringo Starr’s childhood home
The address 10 Admiral Grove stands on a street without vehicle circulation, therefore excursions stop outside it so to indicate the house.
As it stands (a Saturday in September 2014) the tour bus stopped at the corner, in front of the Empress pub, where I was able to photograph the building used as Ringo’s first solo front cover record, “Sentimental Journey“.

Later on, with the address in hand, I returned to Admiral Grove on my own, where soon I saw a man who left one of those houses.
I asked him where it was the former Ringo’s home and he pointed out an old woman who was outdoor just a few steps ahead.
The lady was very receptive and gentle, indicating me a Ringo poster on the front window, saying she had met him since his childhood; he had been a sick boy, fortunately overcoming all difficulties with time.
When I asked her permission to photograph the House facade, the lady agreed and responded to me nicely: OK, you can shoot it, and moreover you are invited to come into the house with me.
I was so happy about that and couldn’t believe it, once I had never dreamed of this possibility.
By entering the small family room, a huge surprise and a lot of excitement:
the place was a full themed environment, with several photos of the Beatles, Ringo in the same room and at the outside part.
Mrs. Margaret Grose told me she had been a Ringo’s neighbor in the past and she had moved to the address in 1985.
Occasionally, although with extreme constraint, Beatles’ fans were welcome by Mrs. Grose, and voluntary donations were accepted as she donated them all to charity organizations.
That remarkable moment will remain forever in my memory by the kindness of Mrs. Grose’s invitation.
After living thirty years at 10 Admiral Grove, in 2015 the lovely Mrs. Grose died at 91 years old, sadly one year after the honor of meeting her.
– George Harrison’s childhood home
The first address of George in Liverpool had been 12 Arnold Grove, a dead-end street in which only residents ‘ vehicles were admitted.
The tour bus stopped away and the guide indicated us the house identified by a small vessel hung on the facade, just behind a parked car.
Somewhat frustrated I decided to shoot the camera even from afar, however, to everyone’s surprise, a resident showed up shortly after, allowing us all to walk to the front of the House.
One more joy, because I could bring home a picture of 12 Arnold Grove facade and for a few seconds I felt the vibration to be where one of the 4 Beatles had lived, none other than the fabulous George Harrison.
– John Lennon and Paul McCartney’s first meeting point
Another desire of mine was going to the “exact” spot where Ivan Vaughn introduced his neighbor John Lennon to the classmate Paul McCartney, in 1957.
Unfortunately, my previous tour didn’t visit this place, so I should try to search for it on your own.
I knew that around there was Eleanor Rigby’s grave, who had inspired Paul McCartney to compose a beautiful song in 1966, telling a fictional story on a poor woman.
I drove straight to St Peter’s Church neighborhood, where John Lennon had lived and studied, but I wasn’t able to identify any of the 2 attractions.
A late Saturday afternoon, with a timeout to leave Liverpool, I was left asking the passing by people about it.
Firstly a gentleman said he didn’t know the locations, after that a young couple who regretted not knowing, too.
The last attempt was left with a gentleman walking with his dog on the sidewalk.
I said:
Good afternoon, Sir. By any chance do you know where are Eleanor Rigby’s grave and the place where 2 of the Beatles first met near here?
He looked in my eyes replying with utmost safety and visible joy:
You are a lucky person, aren’t you?
Under my curiosity, he pointed out the yellow t-shirt he was wearing, showing me the logotype and said:
Nice to meet you, I’m Stevie T and I work with Mop Top Tours guiding people to Beatles sites in Liverpool.
I could not believe it …!!!
With extreme pleasure, Stevie kindly took me directly to the two sites telling me in great detail the scene of the first meeting, when Paul was introduced and then borrowed the guitar of John nicely playing songs that were hit at the time.
John liked a lot what he heard, although he did not show enthusiasm in bringing Paul to the Quarry Men, fearing the loss of leadership in his Skiffle group.
Of course, shortly after, John relented and the eternal seed was born.
I was extremely grateful to Stevie and we said goodbye with a big hug by our unexpected meeting.
Before going back to Liverpool I will book a Mop Top Tours ride, for sure.
