Visitar um castelo é sempre um passeio marcante, sem dúvida, principalmente tratando-se de uma das mais famosas casas históricas da Inglaterra.
Mas qual será o motivo de tanto interesse pelo Castelo de Highclere?
Razões não faltam: a beleza da edificação, a natureza dos campos, os jardins e seus imensos cedros de 250 anos, a floresta e a fazenda.

Atualmente, o 8º Conde de Carnarvon e sua família vivem nesta maravilhosa propriedade, portanto toda a parte interna é autêntica e revela ao visitante um pouco da intimidade dos nobres ingleses nos dias de hoje.
Além de tudo isso, o Castelo de Highclere é cenário da premiada série de TV “Downton Abbey” mundialmente exibida.

O primeiro palácio medieval foi construído aqui entre os séculos XII e XIII, que mais tarde foi sucedido por uma construção de tijolos vermelhos em estilo Tudor.
Entre os séculos XVIII e XIX, a família Carnarvon a converteu em uma mansão em estilo Clássico Georgiano.
Em 1838, o 3º Conde de Carnarvon contratou uma reforma em estilo Jacobino, que, segundo ele, deveria impressionar o mundo. O castelo foi reinaugurado em 1842, tal como é hoje.

Em 1922 o 5º Conde de Carnarvon, morador do Castelo, e Howard Carter fizeram uma descoberta histórica no Egito: encontraram a tumba do faraó Tutancâmon, falecido em 1327 AC, além de 5000 objetos de arte e de uso pessoal do mesmo.
Algumas peças fazem parte do acervo da família, que fica exposto no subsolo do Castelo.

O período anual de visita dura entre 60 e 70 dias, sendo que a temporada de 2016 foi aberta em 10 de Julho, de Domingo a Quinta-feira, e encerrará no dia 7 Setembro.

- Stonehenge – Amesbury – Um lugar intrigante
Ainda no sentido Oeste, percorrendo 60 km de estrada, a partir do Castelo de Highclere, chega-se a um lugar mágico pela sua grandiosa formação.
Stonehenge é uma gigantesca estrutura de pedras, cujo início da construção data do ano 3100 AC, portanto há quase 5000 anos atrás.
Segundo os arqueólogos, Stonehenge ainda teve duas outras etapas ao longo da história, aproximadamente nos anos 2150 AC e 2075 AC.
As pedras chegam a 5 metros de altura e podem pesar mais de 50 toneladas.
Como foram levadas e montadas no lugar é um verdadeiro mistério……
Acredita-se que as pedras foram trazidas de montanhas a 24 km ao norte do “templo”.
Estudos mostraram que sua formação circular, de aproximadamente 100 metros de diâmetro, estava alinhada com o pôr do Sol no último dia do inverno e também com as fases da Lua, o que aumenta nossa curiosidade.

No seu entorno foram identificadas 56 covas contendo restos humanos ……..cremados…..
Anualmente, no dia 21 de Junho, o Sol nasce exatamente alinhado à pedra principal.
Por tudo isso acredita-se em algumas finalidades, tais como observação astronômica, ciclo agrícola e/ou templo religioso.
Em sítios arqueológicos próximos a Stonehenge, foram encontrados objetos e materiais que permitiram reproduzir a moradia dos povos neolíticos que ali viveram e construíram esta intrigante estrutura em pedra.
Os turistas devem se dirigir à entrada principal do parque, onde adquirem seus ingressos, assistem ao vídeo que simula a construção do templo e depois são levados em grupo pelos veículos da própria organização.
Na volta, próximo da recepção, pode-se conhecer e fotografar a “aldeia” onde viviam os habitantes daquele tempo.
Além de loja de lembranças de Stonehenge, há também um restaurante e lanchonete para os visitantes.

Visiting a castle is always a remarkable ride, indeed, especially when we talk about one of the most famous historic houses of England.
But what is the reason of so much interest by Highclere Castle?
Reasons abound: the beautyful building, the nature around, gardens and their immense Cedars of 250 years, the forest, the farm or The Heaven’s Gate.
Currently, the 8th Earl of Carnarvon and his family live in this wonderful property, so the entire inside is authentic and reveals to visitors some of the intimacy of the English nobles.
In addition to all this, the Highclere Castle is the film location for the award-winning TV series “Downton Abbey” worldwide loved.
The first medieval palace was built there between the 12th and 13th centuries, later succeeded by a red-brick building in Tudor style.
Between the 18th and 19th centuries the Carnarvon family transformed it into a Classic Georgian-style mansion.
In 1838 the 3rd Earl of Carnarvon hired a Jacobean-style reform, which, according to him, should impress the world. The castle was reopened in 1842, as it is today.

In 1922 the 5th Earl of Carnarvon, a resident of Highclere and Howard Carter made a historic breakthrough in Egypt: they found the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun, died 1327 BC, plus 5000 objects of art and personal use.

Stonehenge – Amesbury – An intriguing site
Even to the West, drive 60 km from the Highclere Castle and you will get to a gigantic and magical place.
Stonehenge is an impressive stone structure, which started to be constructed in the year 3100 BC, so almost 5000 years ago.
According to archaeologists, Stonehenge still had two more steps throughout history, approximately in the year 2150 BC then 2075 BC.
The stones reach 5 meters height and can weigh more than 50 tons.
How they were taken and set in place, it’s a real mystery. …
It is believed that the stones were brought from the mountains 24 km north of the temple.
Studies have shown that their circular formation, approximately 100 meters in diameter, was aligned with the sunset on the last day of winter as well as the phases of the Moon, which increases our curiosity.
In its surroundings were identified 56 graves containing cremated ….. human remains…..
Annually, on 21 June, the sun rises exactly aligned to the main stone.
For all that Stonehenge is believed to provide several purposes, such as astronomical observation, agricultural cycle and/or religious temple.
In archaeological sites near Stonehenge have been found objects and materials that allowed to reproduce the housing of Neolithic people who lived around and built this intriguing stone structure.
Tourists must drive to the Park main entrance in order to purchase their tickets, watch the video simulating the temple construction, then they are taken in groups by vehicles of the organization itself.
Going back to the reception building, people will be able to meet and photograph the “village” where the inhabitants of that time used to live.
There is also a restaurant and cafeteria, as well as gift shop regarding Stonehenge stuff.
