– Cavern Club – Parede da Fama
No recente post “George Harrison – Surge o terceiro Beatle”, falamos sobre o endereço 10 Mathew Street, onde fica o lendário Cavern Club, estão lembrados?
Neste local, os Beatles se apresentaram 292 vezes entre 09 de Fevereiro de 1961 e 03 de Agosto de 1963, portanto 6 meses antes de atingir o topo da parada americana e de a Beatlemania se tornar o maior fenômeno musical de todos os tempos.
A partir daí, a propriedade passou por diversos donos e parte do “club” foi demolida para instalação do sistema de ventilação da ferrovia subterrânea de Liverpool.
Para sorte dos fãs, em 1984 o Cavern foi restaurado com material original do prédio, permanecendo com 50% de sua capacidade anterior.
Do outro lado da rua, a 70 metros do 10 Mathew Street e junto ao Cavern “Pub”, uma estátua de John Lennon foi erguida em 16 de Janeiro de 1997.

Além da bela homenagem, devemos observar (atrás dele) o Mural da Fama do Cavern, no qual cada tijolo representa um conjunto ou cantor que tenha se apresentado na casa entre 1957 e 1973, incluindo The Who, Badfinger, Animals, The Rolling Stones, Queen, The Hollies, entre outros.

Voltando ao Cavern Club, descer suas escadas, e ver o símbolo na parede, dá aquela vibração ao pensar que, por tantas vezes, The Beatles haviam se apresentado naquele modesto ambiente.
No palco, cantores, conjuntos e “covers” dos Beatles se apresentam regularmente.
Há épocas de festivais exclusivamente dedicados aos Beatles. Antes de sua viagem, consulte o site www.cavernclub.org para escolher a data de sua conveniência.
– Stanley Street – Outra estátua
Saindo de dentro do Cavern Club, vire à direita e ande 110 metros até o final da Mathew Street, dobre à esquerda na Stanley Street e ande mais 20 metros.

Pronto, ao seu lado direito você encontrará a estátua de Eleanor Rigby (“All the lonely people”), do artista Tommy Steele, em referencia à música do LP “Revolver”, lançado em Agosto de 1966.

– Newcastle Road – Number 9
No documentário Anthology, John Lennon conta que morou em Newcastle Road, Liverpool, na localidade de Penny Lane, porém não cita o número da casa.
Na verdade, este foi o primeiro endereço onde ele viveu com sua mãe, Julia, do nascimento aos 5 anos de idade, portanto antes de ser adotado por Tia Mimi.
Visitando Penny Lane por conta própria, eu não poderia deixar de conhecer e fotografar mais esta casa de um Beatle em Liverpool, concorda?
Depois de conhecer a rotatória, o Banco na esquina, o bombeiro e o salão de barbeiro que fizeram parte da letra da canção Penny Lane,
fui até Newcastle Road, mas deparei com um problema: as casas eram todas iguais e não havia como identificar em qual delas John Lennon havia morado.
E agora???????
Depois de algumas fotos ao acaso, vi uma jovem saindo de casa e disse:
– Olá. Você saberia informar em qual casa desta rua John Lennon morou?
Sem pensar muito, ela respondeu:
– “number 9”
, apontando o imóvel do outro lado, pouco mais adiante.
Como fanático pelos Beatles, fiz uma imediata retrospectiva mental:
Em 1968, para o Álbum Branco, John Lennon compôs a enigmática canção Revolution 9, na qual ouve-se, repetidas vezes, uma voz dizendo: number 9, number 9, number 9 ……
Em 1974, para o álbum “Walls and Bridges”, John compôs: # 9 Dream.
Então eu disse a ela:
– Ah, talvez seja por isso que John tenha usado o número 9 em algumas de suas canções, não é?
Ela me olhou com leve ar de espanto, depois sorriu e não soube responder……
Minha intuição foi confirmada posteriormente, pois, pesquisando um pouco mais, descobri que John Lennon realmente tinha grande fascinação pelo número 9.
Alguém disse:
A razão por trás do 9, é que ele tinha uma grande fascinação pelo número 9
The reason behind the ‘9’ is that he had a great fascination with the number 9
Portanto, suponho que esteja relacionado ao seu primeiro endereço.
Outra descoberta relacionada: No final da música “Mother”, de 1970, John implora, 9 vezes seguidas, para que sua mãe não se vá e que seu pai volte para casa.
Muito provavelmente, a casa citada na canção fosse aquela do endereço “9” Newcastle Road.
Uma sincera confissão:
Durante minha visita a Liverpool, a antiga casa de John estava em reforma e o número havia sido retirado, provavelmente para pintarem a fachada, portanto o “9” que aparece na foto abaixo foi adicionado por mim, como homenagem ao meu caro Beatle John Lennon.
Além de todos os fatos acima, algo especial pode ter despertado o fascínio numérico de John Lennon: ele nasceu no dia 9 de Outubro de 1940.
– Strawberry Fields – Woolton, Nova York e The Beatles Story
No post publicado há duas semanas, contamos que Strawberry Field era um orfanato mantido pelo Exército da Salvação britânico, ao qual John Lennon adorava ir desde a infância à adolescência.
Inspirado nisso, John compôs a canção “Strawberry Fields Forever”, lançada em 1967.
Este local funcionou entre 1936 e 2005, quando foi transformado num centro de preces.
Para alegria geral, na Beacosfield Road – Woolton – Liverpool, o icônico portão vermelho permanece no local, onde acontece constante peregrinação de fãs de todas as partes do mundo.
Muitos deles não resistem em deixar seu nome registrado no muro……
Pouco mais de 10 anos após a separação dos Beatles, John Lennon foi barbaramente assassinado em Nova York, no dia 08 de Dezembro de 1980, em frente ao edifício onde morava.
Quatro meses depois, em sua homenagem, Nova York inaugurou bem perto do local, a praça Strawberry Fields, dentro do Central Park, com um mosaico redondo escrito “Imagine”, seu sonho de paz entre as pessoas e países do mundo.
Uma réplica do lindo mosaico pode ser vista em Liverpool, no museu The Beatles Story, na parte dedicada à carreira solo de John Lennon.

Caso você decida ir a Liverpool de avião, prepare-se para entrar no “clima” logo ao chegar, sabe por quê?
O aeroporto local chama-se ………Liverpool John Lennon Airport……..

Liverpool – Fascination with number 9
– Cavern Club – Wall of Fame
In the recent post “George Harrison – the third Beatles arises”, we talked about 10 Mathew Street, the legendary Cavern Club address, do you remember?
At this venue The Beatles played 292 times between February 09th, 1961 and August 03rd, 1963, so 6 months before reaching the top of American hit parade, with Beatlemania becoming the biggest musical phenomenon of all time.
From those days the building passed through several owners and part of the “club” was demolished for installation of ducts belonging to the Liverpool underground railroad.
Lucky for fans, in 1984 the Cavern was restored with the original bricks, remaining 50% of its previous size.
Across the street, just 70 meters ahead of 10 Mathew Street and next to the Cavern “Pub”, a statue of John Lennon was erected on January 16th, 1997.
It is a mandatory photo for those who come to Liverpool!!!!!!
In addition to the beautiful tribute, behind him, you’ll notice The Cavern Wall of Fame, on which bricks represent the bands and/or singers who performed in the house between 1957 and 1973, including The Who, Badfinger, Animals, The Rolling Stones, Queen, The Hollies, among others.
Not by chance, the Beatles plus (separately) John, Paul, George and Ringo are just below the plaque as you can see.
Back to the Cavern Club, going down the stairs you will find the logo on the wall and feel the vibration by thinking The Beatles had performed there for so many times.
Singers, bands or Beatles covers regularly do their performances on the current stage.
There are seasons with festivals exclusively devoted to The Beatles. Before your trip be sure to visit the website www.cavernclub.org and choose a show of your convenience.
– Stanley Street – another statue
Coming out from Cavern Club, turn right then walk 110 metres to the end of the Mathew Street, after that turn left onto Stanley Street and walk 20 more meters.
Now look right to find the amazing statue of Eleanor Rigby (“All the lonely people”), by the artist Tommy Steele, after the music from LP “Revolver“, released in August 1966.

– Newcastle Road-Number 9
In the documentary Anthology, John Lennon told he had lived in Newcastle Road, Penny Lane, suburb of Liverpool, but he didn’t mention the House number.
As a matter of fact, this was the first address where John lived with his mother Julia from birth to 5 years old, therefore before being adopted by Aunt Mimi.
Visiting Penny Lane on my own, I couldn’t fail to meet and photograph another Beatle House in Liverpool, right?.
After meeting the “shelter in the middle of the roundabout”, the Bank on the corner, the fire station and the Barber-shop being part of the lyrics to the song Penny Lane, I drove to Newcastle Road, but ran into a problem: the houses were all the same, so there was no way to identify where John Lennon had lived.
What now???????
After some photos at random, I saw a young woman leaving home and asked her:
-Hi. Do you know the House where John Lennon lived here at Newcastle Road?
Without thinking much, she promptly replied :
-“number 9”
by pointing the property on the other side, a little further.
Beatlemaniac as I am, I made an immediate mental retrospective:
In 1968, for the White Album, John Lennon composed the enigmatic song “Revolution 9”, in which you hear repeatedly a voice saying: number 9, number 9, number 9 … …
In 1974, for the album “Walls and Bridges“, John wrote: # 9 Dream.
So, I told her:
Oh, maybe that’s why John has used number 9 in some of his songs, right?
She looked at me with amazement, then smiled with no answer at all……
My intuition has been confirmed afterwards: by searching I discovered that John Lennon had a great fascination with the number 9, supposedly related to his very first address, in Penny Lane.
Someone said:
“The reason behind the ‘ 9 ‘ is that he had a great fascination with the number 9”
Related enigma: at the end of the song “Mother”, 1970, John begs 9 times in a row: “Mamma don’t go, Daddy come home”.
Would this home be 9 Newcastle Road??????
An honest confession:
During my visit to Liverpool, the former John’s house was under reform so the addreess number had been removed, probably for painting, therefore the #9 appearing in the photo has been added by me afterwards, as a tribute to my dear Beatle John Lennon.
In addition to all the facts above, something special may have awakened the John Lennon’s numeric fascination: he was born on 9th October, 1940.
– Strawberry Fields – Woolton, New York and The Beatles Story
In a post published two weeks ago, I told that Strawberry Field was an orphanage supported by the British Salvation Army, to which John Lennon loved to go from childhood to adolescence.
Inspired by this, John composed the song “Strawberry Fields Forever“, released in 1967. (He addded an “s” to the word Field)
This site worked between 1936 and 2005, then transformed into a centre of prayer.
To general joy, Beacosfield Road – Woolton – Liverpool still exibits the iconic red gate where constant pilgrimages take place with fans from all over the world.
Many can’t resist letting their names registered on the wall …
Little more than 10 years after the Beatles’ breakup, John Lennon was brutally murdered in New York, on December 8th, 1980, before the building he lived.
Four months later, in his honor, New York opened near the site, the Strawberry Fields Square, in Central Park; a round mosaic written “Imagine” inside, his dream of peace among people from all countries of the world.
A replica of this beautiful mosaic can also be seen at The Beatles Story – Liverpool, in a section dedicated to John Lennon solo career.
– A last information
If you decide to go to Liverpool by plane, as soon as you arrive you’ll jump right in the “Beatle environment” . Do you know why?
The local airport is called……… Liverpool John Lennon Airport……..
