No post de hoje, vamos conhecer outras fantásticas atrações de Cambridge.

– Ponte dos Suspiros
Construída em 1831, em estilo Neogótico, a Ponte dos Suspiros atravessa o Rio Cam, ligando os dois lados do St John’s College.
Assim como a pioneira Ponte dos Suspiros de Veneza (comentada no www.bagagemdebordo.com em post anterior), a de Cambridge também é uma estrutura coberta e tornou-se uma das principais atrações turísticas da cidade.
Basicamente, há duas formas de se conseguir uma boa foto da Ponte dos Suspiros:
a primeira delas , é durante o passeio de barco pelo rio Cam e a segunda é sobre a outra ponte do St. John’s College, paralela à ela.
Ao visitar Cambridge durante seu reinado, a Rainha Victoria elegeu a Ponte dos Suspiros como seu lugar preferido na cidade.
– O famoso King’s College
Na margem do rio Cam, e de frente para a King’s Parade, fica um verdadeiro símbolo de Cambridge, o King’s College, que foi fundado por Henrique VI, em 1441.
Sua Capela, exemplo da Arquitetura gótica inglêsa, foi iniciada em 1446 e terminada por Henrique VIII, em 1515. Depois disso, novos adornos foram incluídos, até o ano de 1544.

Vários são os cursos oferecidos pelo prestigiado King’s College, de onde saíram notáveis alunos:
Arquitetura, Engenharia, Geografia, História, Ciências Naturais, Sociais e Humanas, Direito, Matemática, Medicina, Música, Teologia, etc
– O surpreendente Museu Fitzwilliam
Fundado em 1816, atualmente o Fitzwilliam Museum está completando 200 anos de funcionamento em seu belíssimo edifício, no endereço 25, Trumpington Street.
Para encontra-lo, caminhe apenas 6 minutos do King’s College ou do Corpus Clock e se surpreenda de verdade.
Apesar de não ser grandioso, é considerado o melhor “pequeno museu” da Europa, com riquíssimo acervo de 20.000 peças do próprio continente, Oriente Médio e Extremo Oriente, cobrindo o período entre o século XIII e o atual.
Fique tranquilo, pois não precisa conhecer “todas as peças”.
Simplesmente maravilhoso:
Esculturas, Arte Decorativa (potes, porcelanas, vidro, tecidos, mobiliário, relógios, joias, metais, etc), Moedas, Medalhas, Pinturas, Gravuras, etc
Mundo Antigo: artefatos do Antigo Egito (impressionante), Sudão, Grécia, Roma, etc
Não perca por nada!!!!!!
Reserve um tempo de pelo menos 2 horas e aproveite para tomar um lanche no próprio Museu.

– Uma Casa de Chá num pomar de maçãs (The Orchard Tea Gardens)
A 10 minutos de carro do centro de Cambridge, às margens do rio Cam, fica a vila de Grantchester.
Em 1897, um grupo de estudantes pediu licença à proprietária para tomar chá, que haviam trazido de Cambridge, em seu pomar de maçãs.
A partir desta ideia, a família Stevenson passou a explorar o local, fundando The Orchard Tea Gardens, que ainda funciona nas mesmas instalações da época.
É uma verdadeira volta no tempo, passando agradáveis momentos na bela vila, no endereço 43, Millway, Grantchester – Cambridge.
Você toma seu lanche sentado naquele jardim rodeado de macieiras, enquanto aprecia o relaxante ambiente.
Aproveite para dar um passeio no entorno, onde encontrará belas construções típicas do interior da Inglaterra.
Voltando a Cambridge, é claro que há outros interessantes pontos turísticos, como a Igreja de St Mary (Great St Mary’s Church), uma das primeiras construções de Cambridge reconstruída no século XV (em frente à Senate House),
outras escolas
e maravilhosas paisagens
, porém, com muita tristeza, é hora de partirmos para outro local.

In today’s post let’s meet some other fantastic attractions of Cambridge.

- The Bridge of Sighs
Built in 1831, the neo-Gothic style bridge spans the River Cam, linking both sides of the St. John’s College.
As well as the pioneer Bridge of Sighs in Venice (previously commented on www.bagagemdebordo.com), the Cambridge’s is also a covered structure that became one of the city’s main tourist attractions.
Basically, there are two ways to get a good photo of the Bridge of Sighs:
the first one is during the “punting boat tour” on the River Cam, whereas the second one is standing over the bridge of St. John’s College, parallel to it.
By the time the Queen Victoria visited Cambridge, Her Majesty elected the Bridge of Sighs as her favorite spot in the city.
- The famous King’s College
On the bank of the River Cam and facing the King’s Parade, the King’s College is a true symbol of Cambridge, founded in 1441 by Henry VI.
Its Chapel is an example of English Gothic architecture which construction began in 1446 and was completed by Henry VIII in 1515. After that, some new decoration items were added until 1544.

The prestigious King’s College provides too many courses as follows:
Architecture, engineering, geography, history, natural social and human sciences, law, mathematics, medicine, music, theology, etc.
- The Fitzwilliam Museum
Founded in 1816, now the Fitzwilliam Museum is completing 200 years of operation in its beautiful building, at 25, Trumpington Street.
To find it, walk just 6 minutes from the King’s College or the Corpus Clock and be surprised by the fabulous museum.
Not too great, The Fitzwilliam is considered the best small Museum in Europe, with a rich collection of 20.000 objects from the continent, Middle East and Far East regions, covering the period between the 13th century and the present.
Don’t be scared, for you won’t need to see “all the objects”.
Simply wonderful:
Sculptures, decorative art (jars, porcelain, glass, fabrics, furniture, watches, jewelry, metals, etc), coins, medals, paintings, engravings, etc.
Ancient world: artifacts from ancient Egypt (awesome), Sudan, Greece, Rome, etc.
Do not miss it at all.!!!!!
Take at least 2 hours and relax having a snack inside the Museum itself.

- A Tea House at an apple orchard (The Orchard Tea Gardens)
Just 10-minute drive from Cambridge Centre, on the banks of the River Cam stands the village of Grantchester.
In 1897, a group of students asked the owner to take the tea, which they had brought from Cambridge, at the property’s orchard.
From this idea, the Stevenson family decided to explore the site, founding The Orchard Tea Gardens, which still works in the same old time facilities.
It is a true back in time, spending pleasant moments in the beautiful village at 43, Millway, Grantchester-Cambridge.
You take your lunch sitting in the silent garden surrounded by apple trees, while enjoying the nice atmosphere.
Take a walk in the surroundings, where you will find beautiful typical buildings of the English countryside.
Back to Cambridge you certainly will find a lot of interesting sights such as the Great St. Mary’s Church, one of the oldest buildings in Cambridge rebuilt in the 15th century, located in front of the Senate House, other schools and wonderful landscapes.
Now, with great sadness, it’s time to leave Cambridge going to somewhere else.
