OK, você quer ver alguns quadros, certo?

A entrada é gratuita…..

Phil Collins, Sting, Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, John Lennon, George Harrison, Billy Preston , Adele, Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton Sarah Brightman, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber,  Andrea Bocelli, Andre Rieu, Luciano Pavarotti, entre outros.

Curiosidade: na  última música do famoso disco Sgt Pepper’s , Lennon e McCartney citam o famoso teatro no trecho final da letra de “A Day In The Life”:

“Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall, I’d love to turn you on”

Novembro/15: dias pares (2, 4, 6, etc)

Continue seguindo e compartilhando o www.bagagemdebordo.com

London, London, Londra -Exploring the city – Part IV

Hello guys!!!

Once again let’s talk about London’s attractions with a lot of interesting information for you.

Shall we go?

-National Gallery

The London’s largest square, Trafalgar, houses the building of the amazing National Gallery.

Remember the last post about the British Museum and the collection’s main objects?

You may not have realized, but there were no paintings among them. Right?

Paintings are present in other museums and galleries in London.

The National Gallery houses paintings from the Western region of Europe, including works from 13th century to early 20th century.

The National Gallery was founded in 1824 with only 36 paintings and over time it has accumulated 2300 works.

Don’t panic, please !!!

I reserved 30 works for those who have 3 hours available and, among them, 10 must-see works for those who have only one “free” hour to spend.

Believe it or not, the 30 main works are all on the 2nd  floor.

Easy, isn’t it?

How lucky you are….

I have arranged them in order of rooms so your visit will become even faster.

Just try to hold emotion in front of paintings by Titian, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, Botticelli, Rubens and other fabulous painters.

OK, you feel like looking at some of the paintings, right?

Now comes a big surprise for the social networks users:
In room 24 (2nd floor) you will find one of the oldest ‘ selfies ‘ of all time:  the Rembrandt self-portrait, 1630.

They say Rembrandt copied the idea of Raphael, Titian and Dürer, who had already made their “selfies” some years before. See how advanced these artists were?

Try yourself imagine if they had a “smartphone” at that time…. They surely would spread their “selfies” throughout the world, wouldn’t they?

The National Gallery opens 361 days a year, daily from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and on Fridays from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Do you want another reason to go to the NG?  Admission is totally free …

If you’re hungry, don’t worry, because there is a good restaurant inside the Gallery.

Please don’t tell me you’re going to London precisely one of the days of the year in which the National Gallery remains closed….

-Royal Albert Hall

In the previous post, I had commented on Albert, Queen Victoria’s husband, who was a big enthusiast  of arts during the Victorian Era.

In his honor, in the Kensington Gardens, was founded in 1871 the Royal Albert Hall, a beautiful spectacle house, holding performances of artists, singers, orchestras, etc, ranging from Classical to Rock and Pop Music.

Want examples of people who have performed at the Royal Albert Hall?

Phil Collins, Sting, Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, John Lennon, George Harrison, Billy Preston, Adele, Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, Sarah Brightman, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, Andrea Bocelli, Andre Rieu, Luciano Pavarotti, among others.

Want to find out a list of idols and know when they presented?

Then enter the link below, choose “Heroes of the Hall” and click on the celebrity’s face to get the information.

The picture reminds of “Where’s Wally” or the Sgt. Pepper’s front cover, you name it.

For some artists, you can watch, at the lower right corner of screen, their performances at the RAH. (Trivia /YouTube)

That’s really cool!!!!!

Just remember to return to our Blog afterwards, OK?

In November 2002,  one year after George Harrison’s death, the Royal Albert Hall was the stage for a wonderful concert in tribute to the former Beatle, when the great friends of his attended and performed led by Dhani Harrison, his only son.

In the last track of album Sgt Pepper’s, “A Day In The Life”, Lennon and McCartney cite the famous theatre, as follows:

“Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall, I’d love to turn you on”

Enter the link below to learn about the Hall’s program, tickets or schedule a visit to the beautiful Victorian style building, as it should be:

-Windsor Castle

Just an hour from London you will find the fantastic castle, where the Royal Family usually spend their weekends, so one of the official residences of her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II.

The original castle was built in the XI th century by William the Conqueror, can you imagine?

The land has about ten acres and hosts a magnificent Chapel next door.

The spectacular State apartments are decorated with important works of art from the Royal collection, such as Rembrandt, Rubens, Canaletto and Gainsborough.

From October to March, you can also visit the Semi-State Rooms of King George IV, being among the rooms that boast the most sumptuous decoration of the Castle.

At the St. George’s Chapel, one of the most beautiful examples of Gothic architecture in England, were buried ten UK kings, including the legendary Henry VIII and his third wife, Jane Seymour.

Few people know, but the Windsor Castle also holds the famous changing of the guard ceremony at 11:00 am, since the weather is OK.

In Windsor, just a cordon isolates the public from the guard, turning the ceremony even more exciting.

The days are switched with the Buckingham Palace ceremony and should be consulted before your trip:

October 2015: odd days (1, 3 5, etc)

November 2015: even days (2, 4, 6, etc)

Certainly the beautiful gardens, the changing of the guard and the visit to the inner part of the Castle will mark your day for life.

To best enjoy the ride, leave London around 8:30 am, arriving in Windsor about 55 minutes later.

Once in London, take the Tube to the massive Paddington station and there you ‘ll purchase your train ticket to Windsor & Eton Central, by First Great Western.

It’s good to remember that it is necessary to change trains in the town of Slough.

Something very easy and quick.

The one-way ticket cost ranges from £ 9.90 to £ 17.60, depending on the class of accommodation of your choice.

It’s a beautiful ride, no doubt!!

The adult ticket to the castle ranges from £ 10.40 to £ 19.20, according to the time of year and what you want to include in the ride.

The hours of operation vary from 9:45 am to 4:15 or 5:15 pm, depending on the time of year, but, again, I suggest you to get there as early as you can.

The typical visit lasts from 2:30 to 3:00 hours.

Getting out of the Castle, in the town of Windsor you will find numerous restaurants according to your preference.

Accepts a suggestion?
