No post de hoje vamos continuar o passeio pela maravilhosa Edimburgo.
Nossa primeira parada será num histórico conjunto de edifícios:
- Universidade de Edimburgo (Old Town)
Fundada em 1583, a Universidade de Edimburgo formou importantes personalidades do mundo científico, político e cultural, sendo o naturalista Charles Darwin, criador da revolucionária “Origem das Espécies”, o mais famoso aluno.
Darwin também estudou na Universidade de Cambridge. Já imaginou?

Além dele, frequentaram a Universidade de Edimburgo os notáveis:
- Graham Bell, engenheiro e cientista que patenteou o primeiro telefone
- James Clerk Maxwell, que desenvolveu a teoria moderna do Eletromagnetismo
- Adam Smith, o pai da Economia Moderna

- Princes Street (New Town)
Principal ponto de Edimburgo, onde se concentram comércio, hotéis, etc, a Princes Street fica no limite das regiões New Town e Old Town.
A partir dela avistamos à direta, no alto da Old Town, o fantástico Castelo de Edimburgo.
- Princes Gardens (New Town / Old Town)
Paralelo à Princes Street, o antigo pântano, que servia de proteção ao Castelo de Edimburgo, deu lugar ao “Princes Gardens” (compare com a foto acima): um belíssimo parque para passear e relaxar num daqueles bancos ou no próprio gramado, como preferem os moradores da cidade.

- Galeria Nacional da Escócia – Scottish National Gallery (New Town / Old Town)
Fundada em 1859, a Galeria Nacional fica em pleno coração da cidade e possui a maior coleção de arte da Escócia:
Ticiano, Raphael, Botticelli, Velásquez, Paul Gauguin, Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Cézanne, Rembrandt, Peter Paul Rubens, entre outros gênios.

Calton Hill é uma colina a leste da Princes Street, onde fica a sede do governo Escocês.
Deste local você terá uma incomparável vista da cidade de Edimburgo, frequentemente aproveitada para fotos, filmagens e até mesmo pinturas da região.

Edinburgh- The wonderful capital of Scotland – Part II
In today’s post we’ll continue walking through the wonderful Edinburgh.
Our first stop will be at a historic building:
- University of Edinburgh (Old Town)
Founded in 1583 the University of Edinburgh has formed important scientific, political and cultural personalities.
The most famous one is the naturalist Charles Darwin, creator of the revolutionary “origin of species”.
Darwin has also studied in Cambridge. Can you imagine?
Other notable students at the University of Edinburgh:
- Graham Bell, the engineer/scientist who first patented the practical telephone
- James Clerk Maxwell, who developed the modern theory of Electromagnetism
- Adam Smith, the father of modern economy

- Princes Street (New Town)
The Princes Street is the Edinburgh’s hub where you’ll find shops, hotels, etc..
It stands as limit between New Town and Old Town regions.
From here you will be able to view the fantastic Edinburgh Castle at the top of the Old Town.
- Princes Gardens (New Town/Old Town)
Once an old swamp which protected the Edinburgh Castle, Princes Gardens are parallel to Princes Street, forming a gorgeous park for stroll and relax in one of those seats or in the lawn itself, as the city residents prefer.
You will find there many monuments, such as:
Scott Monument, on the left
Royal Scot Greys
Ross Fountain
- Scottish National Gallery (New Town/Old Town)
Founded in 1859, the National Gallery stands in the very heart of Edinburgh and has the largest art collection in Scotland:
Titian, Raphael, Botticelli, Velazquez, Paul Gauguin, Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Cézanne, Rembrandt, Peter Paul Rubens, among others.

- Calton Hill
Calton is the hill to the East side of Princes Street, where the headquarters of the Scottish Government stand.
From this point you will have an incomparable view of Edinburgh, often used for photos, filming and paintings of the region.
