Filho de Jim McCartney e Mary Mohin, James Paul nasceu em 18 de Junho de 1942, indo morar a nordeste de Liverpool, em Knowsley, numa casa temporariamente construída pelo governo inglês, pois a região encontrava-se devastada pela guerra.
Em 1944, nasceu Michael (Mike), seu único irmão.
Em 1947, os McCartney se mudaram para 72 Western Ave, Speke, subúrbio de Liverpool, onde uma parte do bairro continuava em obras de reconstrução, fazendo com que Mary buscasse algo melhor para criar seus filhos.

A partir de 1953, Paul foi estudar no Liverpool Institute, onde permaneceu por aproximadamente 7 anos.
Em 1955, finalmente a família conseguiu comprar uma nova casa na localidade de Allerton – Liverpool, no endereço 20 Forthlin Road, com a qual todos ficaram muito felizes.
Paul McCartney vinha de uma família com tradição musical. Seu pai tocava mais de um instrumento e com sua banda participava de apresentações na região de Liverpool.
O quarto de Paul ficava no andar superior, na janela sobre a porta de entrada.

havia um piano, onde aos domingos parentes se reuniam para tocar e cantar, criando um ambiente favorável ao talento musical de Paul, que comprou seu primeiro violão em 1956.
Curiosidade: neste mesmo ano, Paul McCartney compôs, sozinho, a base da canção “When I’m Sixty-Four”, que foi gravada pelos Beatles 11 anos mais tarde, no lendário LP Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
A alegria da família na nova casa durou pouco mais de um ano, pois, em outono de 1956, Mary adoeceu e em seguida faleceu, deixando Jim, Paul e Mike.
Apesar do endereço 20 Forthlin Road ficar a menos de 1 milha de Mendips, casa onde John Lennon morava com tia Mimi, os dois só se conheceram em 06 de Julho de 1957, quando foram apresentados por um amigo em comum, na festa da St Peter’s Church.
Conforme comentado no post anterior, Ivan Vaughan era vizinho de John e estudava na mesma classe de Paul, no Liverpool Institute.

Para ir do 20 Forthlin Road até onde John morava, Paul passava pelo gramado do Allerton Park Golf Club.
Inicialmente, Paul e John ensaiavam em Mendips, porém sentiam-se mais à vontade em casa de Paul, onde compuseram canções como “Love Me Do”, “I Saw Her Standing There”, I’ll Follow The Sun”, entre outras.
Todas as manhãs, indo à escola, Paul tomava o ônibus nº86 e numa destas vezes conheceu George Harrison, um garoto pouco mais novo do que ele, também aluno do Liverpool Institute e que, igualmente, adorava tocar violão.
George morava na localidade de Speke, a mesma em que Paul viveu com sua família antes de irem para 20 Forthlin Road.
Em março de 1958, Paul apresentou George a John Lennon, que inicialmente o achou muito jovem, porém Harrison desempenhou brilhantemente no “teste” e foi aceito com entusiasmo pelo grupo The Quarry Men.
Desta forma, por obra de seu colega de escola, o astro George Harrison permaneceu alinhado aos demais, Paul e John, tornando-se o terceiro Beatle.

Paul continuava morando em 20 Forthlin Road quando os Beatles ganharam fama mundial.
Por isso, sempre guardou boas lembranças daquele lugar: “There are places I’ll remember” ficou imortalizada por Lennon & McCartney na canção “In My Life”.
Em entrevista, Paul conta que, anos depois, passava devagar de carro com seus filhos, quando um senhor lhe perguntou:
“Ei, vocês estão procurando a casa de Paul McCartney? É aquela ali…”, apontando para 20 Forthlin Road, o lugar mágico onde foram compostas algumas das canções que influenciaram milhões de fãs dos Beatles em todo o mundo.

Son of Jim McCartney and Mary Mohin, James Paul was born on 18th June, 1942, moving in the North-Eastern suburb of Liverpool, Knowsley, in a temporary house built by the British Government, since the region had been severely devastated during the war.
In 1944, Michael (Mike) was born, Paul’s only brother.
In 1947 the McCartney family moved to 72 Western Ave, Speke, suburb of Liverpool, where the neighborhood was under reconstruction works, causing Mary to seek a better place to raise her kids.
From 1953, Paul studied at the Liverpool Institute, remaining there for approximately 7 years.
In 1955 the family finally managed to buy a new house in Allerton-Liverpool at 20 Forthlin Road, where all they became very happy.
Paul McCartney came from a musical family. His father played more than one instrument and with his band Jim used to perform around the Liverpool region.
Paul’s bedroom was upstairs, at the window over the door.
Besides the TV set and fireplace, in the family room there was a piano. On Sunday relatives gathered to play and sing, creating a favorable environment for Paul’s musical talent, who bought his first guitar in 1956.
Curiosity: in the same year, Paul McCartney wrote the basis of the song “When I’m Sixty-Four”, which was recorded by the Beatles 11 years later in the legendary record Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
The McCartney family’s joy in their new home lasted little more than a year, since in the fall of 1956 Mary fell ill then died, leaving Jim, Paul and Mike.
Although 20 Forthlin Road was less than 1 mile from Mendips, the home where John Lennon lived with Aunt Mimi, the two boys only met on 06th July, 1957, when they were introduced by a mutual friend at the St. Peter’s Church Garden Fete.
As mentioned in the previous post, Ivan Vaughan was a neighbor of John’s who studied in the same class of Paul at the Liverpool Institute.
Going from 20 Forthlin Road to Mendips Paul had to cross the Allerton Park Golf Club’s lawn.
Initially Paul and John used to rehearse at Mendips, but they felt more comfortable at Paul’s home, where songs such as “Love Me Do”, “I Saw Her Standing There”, “I’ll Follow The Sun” have been composed, among others.
Every morning, going to school, Paul took the bus #86 where he first met George Harrison, a little boy, younger than him, also a Liverpool Institute’s student who loved so much playing guitar.
George lived in Speke, the same suburb in which Paul had lived with his family before moving to 20 Forthlin Road.
In March 1958 Paul introduced George to John Lennon, who initially found him too young, however Harrison boy played brilliantly the “test” being enthusiastically accepted to join The Quarry Men.
As it stands, through the work of his schoolmate, the star George Harrison remained aligned to the other ones, Paul and John, becoming the third Beatle.
Paul still lived at 20 Forthlin Road when The Beatles gained worldwide fame.
So this is the reason why he always kept nice memories of that place and time: “There are places I’ll remember” has been immortalized by Lennon & McCartney in song “In My Life”.
During an interview, Paul stated that years later, he passed slowly by car with his sons, when a gentleman asked him:
“Hey, are you looking for Paul McCartney’s house? Is that one over there…”, pointing to 20 Forthlin Road, the magical place where some songs that influenced millions of Beatles’ fans around the world were composed.
